A big bonus for us, when we decided to buy our hardwood flooring instead of producing it ourselves, is that we no longer had to think “how can we best produce and promote our own products from existing stock.” Instead, we were free to travel throughout Brazil, identifying the best products available and negotiating the lowest prices to be passed on to our customers. Producers who had previously been “the competition” were now potential trading partners. Of course, after many years working in the Brazilian timber business, we already knew many producers very well. Nevertheless, BRBR’s director travelled extensively through the North of Brazil, renewing old acquaintances, making new ones and examining the quality and environmental origins of many types of flooring. It helped a lot that some family members are still living in Brazil and working in the timber business! |
